Men tend to be more active than women and have more muscles. Muscles burn energy even when they aren’t being used and this creates heat for the body. Fat also provides warmth for the body by providing an insulation layer. This is one reason women often need more fat than men. another reason is that extra fat is required to make women fertile. When women drop below a certain level of fat, they often don’t have periods at all. This is quite common in top athletes and gymnasts.
It’s important to remember that boys and girls are different, and that you need to be thinking about what is healthy for you, not for others.

Well boys are not always skinnier than girls. It entirely depends on your genes. However if we are comparing teen girls vs teen boys then the story changes a bit. The hormones are main reason why girls develop much faster than boys and making them look skinny when compared 🙂
The estrogen in women’s bodies results in greater fat storage in certain areas of the body than men. Estrogen is also the reason that women often have a more difficult time burning fat to lose weight. A healthy body fat percentage for men is about 15%, while a healthy level for women is probably closer to 25%. The probable reason for this is that women’s bodies natually store fat to prepare for pregnancy and childbirth.
However if someone is still really skinnier than her female peers than he must blame his genes (thus his parents) 🙂 – just kidding….
