Question: did you have to get good grads to become a scientist

Keywords: , ,

  1. They probably help. Good grades often mean that you are good at working hard and a quick learner. Buth then i also know plenty of awesome scientists who didnt do that well at school or in uni, because they don’t do well in exams, but are excellent in the lab.

Your school grades are really only necessary to get you into uni degrees, and from there it is about how well you do in uni and in your research.

  2. Good grades help! I had moderate grades in school and I was lucky it just got me into my course at uni. I then I realized if I wanted to work in research it is very competitive and having good grades gives you an advantage. I got very good grades in my undergraduate degree which has made up for not doing as well at school. My uni grades have allowed me to win scholarships and get research opportunities before I even finished.

If you don’t have good grades its not the end of the world. It’s still possible to work as a scientist and in research. If you are persistent and passionate about what you do, that can sometimes could for more than grades!
