Question: who was your hero/role model when you were you were in high school?

Keywords: , ,

  1. I’m not sure that I had one. Like most teenage girls i was a touch obsessed with the latest teen star, but I wouldnt say they were my heros. I think I only came to appreciate what people have done for the world when I started university. Then I came to realise that there so many women out there who had contributed to great discoveries and were never credited them. I relaised how hard it was to make scientific breakthroughs, and so came to appreciate so many scientists i read about, past and present.

  2. I had a history teach who was really helpful to me. He would go though all my books for other subjects and help me with my spelling and grammar (I really needed a lot of help back then!). He also made ‘history’ relevant games for our classes. When we studied the gold rush we were give paper money and character cards of what equipment we had and each class we were given a random scenario and whether you found any gold. Then you could buy equipment or supplies. It was fun and made learning about those times more interesting. He was a role model for me and you could tell he really cared about teaching and helping us learn.

Now I admire a lot of different scientists who have made important discoveries, but I didn’t know about any of them until I started university.
