I answered a little bit about how people can get cancer in your other question, which can be found here: https://bit.ly/13UKPvn
Like I mentioned, there are lots of different types of cancers, which can be caused by different reasons.
Cancers are usually caused by mutant cells that don’t die and just grow and grow. Cells can be mutated by a lot of different things. I’ve listed a few below, but there are lots more out there.
Smoking and drinking are big reasons for lung and liver cancers.
Poor nutrition (not eating healthily) can lead to cancers of the intestines.
There are also viruses that can cause cancer as well.
Exposure to radiation also mutates the cells and causes cancers. Studies have found people who survived nuclear disasters (nuclear bombings and powerplant meltdowns) got a lot more cancers than people who weren’t exposed to the radiation.
Basically, to summarise, how people get cancer depends on the type of cancer.
cindy is absolutely spot on, but up to about 90% of all lung cancers is associated with smoking. imagine if non one was allowed to smoke how many people would be alive today! The risk of lung cancer goes down dramatically about a year after you stop smoking.
Thanks for your question waffles
