I’m not sure on the answer to your comet question. We have different coloured skins because of the amount of pigment that is produced. Throughout our skin we have cells called melanocytes which produce melanin. The more melanin the darker your skin. This is controlled by your genes.
Melanin is also produced as a stress response to protect from damage. Thats why people tan in the sun. Its actually your cells trying to produce more melanin to protect you. But don’t think that this is enough to protect you. The suns UV rays will still damage your DNA so you need sunscreen to protect you!!

I’ll take a stab at your comet question roxysurfie.
From what I understand, comets are remnants (leftover bits) of when the solar system was formed. Most of the water that is present on comets now are frozen in the form of ice. When the solar system was being formed, everything was very hot, and the comets used to be very close to the sun, so the water was a liquid in the comet, but as the comets travelled farther and farther away from the sun, the temperature got colder and colder, so the water was frozen into ice. If the comet now travels closer to the sun, that ice will melt into water and react to elements (such as gases) that might be present in the comet and generate the ‘tail’ that we generally associate with comets.
