Question: Can you find a way to cure allergies forever?

    Allergies are really complex diseases and there are multiple genetic and environmental factors which contribute to it. Because it is so complex I think it will be very hard to find a cure but I think we will definitely be able to develop better treatments in the near future.

    I have a friend who was allergic to all nuts and as she got older she was only allergic to peanuts

      That can happen. As we grow up the control of our genes (the stuff I’m working on) changes a little and our immune systems develop. We can become less sensitive to the things that give us an allergy. It can work the other way too where for some people it gets worse as they grow up.

      For each person the unique combinations of their genes and their own unique experiences impact on their disease. Understanding it is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle where we haven’t quite figured out all the pieces fit together yet.
