Question: Do you understand about the exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen and how plants make oxygen and how that affects us people? Might ask about the Amazon rain forests and how the trees being chopped down affects our oxygen levels and if it is really a serious thing?
This is a very important process for the planet. Animals, humans, cars, buildings, they all create carbon dioxide. either as a waste product from breathing in oxygen (or even farting!) or from burning coal to make electricity etc. Plants are wonderful at taking CO2 from the air because they need it. they then create oxygen as a waste product and release it into the air. Because there are so many animals, humans, cars and buildings in the world, there is a lot of CO2 being released.
Now we humans need about 4% of the air to be oxygen to be able to breathe properly. Luckily, earth has about 21% so It will take a while before we replace 17% of the atmosphere with CO2. This would obviously happen much faster if we didnt have plants. So we need to make sure that we have the right number of plants for every human/car/animal/building
However, global warming from a smaller than 17% increase in CO2 in the atmosphere could result in major weather changes and possibly wipe humans out long before we run out of oxygen. No one knows for sure how big a CO2 increase is needed for this, but it is indeed a possibility if we don’t look after the planet more.
