The point of “writing” itself is a very good practice in science as spoken words fly away but written words remain.
Having said that you may not realize the benefit of writing prac reports until you need to repeat the same or a similar experiment again. Recording your observations and results as well as the method/approach you are using is extremely important. If your results are not reproducable, then even you find a cure for cancer, it wouldn’t make sense.
Another important aspect of writing a prac report is to develop good writing skills as you have to write papers and publish them in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and in order to do so you have to learn how to use scientific language which is only learned by writing and writing prac reports, short reports, long reports etc.. over and over again.
If you find writing prac reports unnecessary or boring, read what other people write and also start blogging 🙂 That’ll improve your skills 10-fold plus you’ll start enjoying it.
