Question: what is the most flamable solid ????

Keywords: , ,

  1. I’m not sure which is the MOST flammable, but the metals in powder or fine strip form are often very flammable. phosphorus, sodium, lithium, magnesium are particularly flammable. Presumably the element with the greatest size and the easiest to pull electrons from would have the greatest valence and therefore be the most flammable. Caesium is particularly volatile as it is quite easy for electrons to be removed from it.

Items such as these are classified as Dangerous goods classes 4.1 and 4.2 and must be stored in special containment cabinets.

  2. Hey trex, the most flammable solids are those which exhibits serious hazards due to their ability to ignite spontaneously upon contact with air. Well known examples are phosphorus and titanium dichloride. They are known as “pyrophorics”.
