Question: what makes some tumours spread whereas others stay benign?

Keywords: , ,

  1. what a good question and one scientists like me have been trying to answer properly for years. What we do know is that benign masses tend to just grow. They dont show any sign of spreading into the surrounding tissue. this is how a doctor can do a biopsy and determine whether the tumour is likely to be benign or malignant. Malignant tumours seem to make different proteins which aid them in spreading. What researchers are trying to work out now is what determines whether a cell becomes benign or malignant?
