Multiple myeloma is mainly a disease of the elderly, most people who get it are older than 65. So, I don’t think telling kids about this diseases is the best thing to do, sure it might be interesting, but it wouldn’t really be very relevant.
What I’d really love to do is go and educate kids about how interesting science is and how much fun it can be! (which I hope you’re experiencing a little through this 2-week program?)
I’d like to educate high school students about it. You can have symptoms of this disease when you are in high school, and people will pass it off as ‘growing pains’, or dismiss your symptoms. This disease is very painful, and the earlier you have a correct diagnosis and can recieve treatment the better you’re outcome will be!
