Question: Can ankylosing spondylitis stop you from walking/growing?

    That’s a great question. No, ankylosing spondylitis doesn’t stop you from growing – it can affect very young children, but the average age of onset is 26, after you have finished growing. It can stop you from walking though, because it affects joints in the spine and pelvis, and sometimes the hips. People with ankylosing spondylitis can have a very strange walk! This is because if they tried to walk normally, it would really hurt them.
