Question: what is the most embarrasing thing you have done in the lab?

Keywords: ,

  1. I once shouted out “woohoo i have cleavage” as my boss(male) walked into the lab. I was referring to my enzyme successfully cleaving up my protein, but i got me a really funny look and i turned bright red.

  2. When I first started doing molecular biology 7 years ago, I contaminated a common reagent (shared by all the lab members) with the DNA I’m working on. Within the next couple of weeks, other scientists started to see the contamination in their results but couldn’t pinpoint the reason. I didn’t know either I caused the contamination. However we had a crazy lab manager with an extreme high attention to details and superb molecular biology knowledge. She took a sample from the contaminated samples of other people, isolate the dna then sequenced it and traced it back to me. I was so embarrassed when everyone found out….
Other than this I don’t have any embarrassing moments, I really taught myself to work with extra-care and high attention to detail. I hardly make any mistake, even if I do, I’m quite bold to confess it and fix it right away 🙂

  3. I farted loudly in the lab once and everyone turned and looked at me. Very unlady-like! I just kept working and pretended I didn’t know what happened (even tho it was really loud and obvious!). There were a few laughs but thankfully no one said too much!
