Question: If you could prevent a scientific discovery from the past what would it be?

Keywords: ,

  1. prevent one? I think i would prevent the discovery of splitting the atom, then no country would have nuclear bombs to threaten each other with (or use like they did in Hiroshima etc) They are capable of so much destruction to all life, and not just for a moment, for 50-100 years.

  2. This is a hard question. I think I would want to prevent something that has led to a non-sustainable environment. For example I wish instead of using oil and fossil fuels we had originally invented something more environmentally friendly for industries.

technology might progress slower this way, but if we are not living sustainably and run out of resources, its not going to matter what the latest iPhone can do.

  3. Excellent question zacbuller. Here I don’t fully agree with Miranda & Kate. Science is for science but its results may benefit the public. I would never prevent a scientific discovery from the past. However I acknowledge the misuse of certain scientific discoveries against humanity. If I could prevent anything, that would be malicious people who uses scientific discoveries to harm people & environment. The best thing would be to educate such people…
