Question: Are you Greek because I have heard that in Ancient Greece they used to have people who done scientists work and they were considered to be very smartly educated?
Hi April7, it is true very true that Ancient Greeks contributed tremendously to the development of science. It is very important to acknowledge that the Ancient Greeks developed philosophy as a way of understanding the world around them, without resorting to religion, myth, or magic. Early Greek philosophers, some influenced by nearby Babylonians and Egyptians, were also scientists!! who observed and studied the known world, the earth, seas, and mountains here below, and the solar system, planetary motion, and astral phenomena, above. I don’t have “one” role model, there are two Greek philosophers/scientists that I really respect for their ideas about nature; Thales and Anaximender. Imagine, in the ancient times everyone in your community is explaining natural events/disasters as a wrath of Gods, they worship these Gods who they think get angry and throw lightning bolts on them. Your community sincerely believes that if you sacrifice animals and humans from your own society to these invisible Gods, you please the Gods. In such a community, two philisophers/scientists named Anaximender and Thales show courage to challenge everything their community believes and seed the core of modern science. They start asking “why” and “how” questions, they question everything they know, they challenge each other to refute their ideas. This method helped them to come up with theories (~600BC) which we are still using today (2500 years later). In my opinion Thales and Anaximander started a new Era in the world and their students (ie. Socrates, Aristotle) have been the pioneers of natural and life sciences. I am not Greek but I was born in the town (Milletus) where Thales, Anaximander and many early Greek philosophers lived
If you are not Greek, then are you Turkish, and by the way I’m Egyptian and thanks to you I have now learnt something else about my religion and good luck with the voting?
