Alexander Fleming once got an agar plate he was growing bacteria on become contaminated with a mould. Interestingly, he noticedthe bacteria grew everywhere on the agar plate except an empty zone around the mould. This was the first clue that mould’s could produce antibacterial substances. He examined this further with led to the discovery of penicillin. If he had not been curious about the bacteria free zone around the mould it could have been much later before antibiotics were developed.
Personally I haven’t, but it can happen!
