Question: do you have a particular type of animal you like to work on

  1. Hi waffles, I must say that I don’t really enjoy working on animals. So far I worked on fruit flies, mice and rat. Fruitflies are great model organism to study neurobiological disorders as 75% of human disease have recognizable match with fruitflies. But they are so tiny, which makes it hard to operate on them under microscope, it literally hurts my eyes. Mice that I worked with are the best model organism for many studies from evolution to genomics but they can be sometimes really nasty, their bites hurt so much. Rats are my favourite as they are large enough for surgery without microscope, they are very cute and calm, they never bite and they are great model organism to study neuroscience. They smell terrible, though…
