Question: is your work complicated challenging or frustrating at times?

  1. I did my honours and PhD in reproductive cancer. now i work on bacteria. Those are very different systems, so i alwyas find it challenging and complicated, but that’s what i love about it! I am never bored.

It can easily get frustrating when experiments which should work just suddenly deicde not to work and you have to work out why. It can also be very frustrating when other people are running behind on their day and you have to wait for them to finish using equipment before you can use it making you run behind too! or when people use up the last of something without replacing it or saying anything about it.

  2. It sure is! But that’s part of what makes it so rewarding. I’m always having to solve problems!

  3. Most definitely! But I think every job would be in some ways. You just have to accept when something frustrating happens and push on. Persistence is the key!

  4. Yep definitely, sometimes all three at the same time!

But it is also very rewarding, especially when you figure something out that you’ve been working really hard on (like getting a really good mark on a test you studied really hard for).

It’s also really awesome when you discover something new that no one else has found before.
